Filter installations for odour, gas and dust

A filter installation is a housing with filter media that is connected to your extraction or air handling system. It can come with its own fan.

Types of installation

  • Polypropylene filter vessels. Also in a vertical version.
  • Deep bed scrubbers. Filter drums for high concentrations of H2S, also in a multi-stage version.
  • Air handling units and modular AHUs. Dust filters and gas filters in one cabinet.
  • Overpressure units. Keep a room at positive pressure with filtered air.
  • Vent filters. For the air released when a sewage pumping station or tank breathes in and out.
  • Inline odour filters. A filter fitted into a duct or pipe, at pumping stations and treatment plants among other places.
  • Mobile units. Mobile extraction systems, and mobile carbon filter units for rent.

Deep bed scrubbers

A deep bed scrubber in this range is a polyethylene drum. The material resists chemicals and UV light, so the unit can stand outdoors. It is used where a lot of H2S and mercaptans are released: at sewage pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants and sludge processing.

The standard versions have a diameter of 200 to 2400 mm. The largest is suitable for 6,500 m³/h. Options include a fan with a base, an acoustic hood, a stack, a rain cap, ductwork, a sight glass and sampling points for the medium. There are also versions in polypropylene and in electrically conductive material.

Do you work at a sewage pumping station or treatment plant? We have separate sites for that: odour at sewage pumping stations and odour at wastewater treatment plants.

Air handling units and AHUs

A modular air handling unit combines dust filters and gas filters with a fan. A unit from this range is built up like this:

Part

Specification

Flow rate

850 to 30,000 m³/h

Pre-filter

G4 / ISO Coarse 80 %, 592 × 592 × 48 mm

Gas filter

modules with activated carbon or chemical media, for H2S, NH3, Cl2, NOx, SOx and VOCs, among others

Residence time

at least 0.10 seconds per filter bed

Final filter

F9 / ePM1 80 % (ISO 16890), 592 × 592 × 135 mm

Fan

plug fan with flow control

Casing

double-skinned, insulated aluminium panels; galvanised steel, stainless steel 304 or 316 on request

The values in the table come from the specification of that unit.

The unit can stand indoors or outdoors, on the floor or on the roof, and can have several media stages.

Overpressure units

An overpressure unit keeps a room at positive pressure with filtered air. See Corrosion protection.

Central or local?

In a central set-up, all odour sources go through one duct network to one large filter. In a local set-up, each source, or a group of similar sources, gets its own compact filter.

Central

Local

Set-up

one large installation

several small filters at the sources

Advantage

cost advantage of one large installation over several small ones

flexible, and no long exhaust ducts

Which set-up fits best depends on your operation: the volume of air, the space available and the distance between the sources. Usually a comparison of both set-ups decides.

The flow rate sets the size of the unit.

How to choose

  • What the installation has to do: which substances have to come out, or which air quality you want to reach.
  • The air: which gases, which concentrations, the flow rate, the temperature and the relative humidity.
  • The efficiency you need.
  • The service life: how long the filter has to work before it is replaced or cleaned.

Gases not known? Then a trial with a small filter on a side stream shows which combination of media fits and how much medium is used. See Filter unit rental.

Fitting into an existing installation

If the filter unit goes into an existing installation, ductwork and changes are often needed, as well as knowledge of air engineering. Then the installation is designed and built turnkey. The unit and the filter media can also be installed for you.

Talk about your installation

An installation starts with a conversation about your air, your space and your current extraction. Call us or request a quote; we will call or email you back.
